Han Chiang College has pledged seven full scholarships to provide financial assistance to outstanding and deserving students.
Organised by the Sin Chew Daily Education Fund, the scholarships cover up to 100 per cent of the course fees in a range of courses like the Diploma in Mass Communication, Diploma in Broadcast Journalism, Diploma in Business Management, Diploma in Accounting, Diploma in Logistics Management, Diploma in Multimedia Communication Design and Diploma in Chinese Studies.
Han Chiang College’s chief executive officer Dr Chow Yong Neng said the College is committed to making education accessible to everyone, particularly to high achieving students who can change their family’s fate for the better.
“We want to create more opportunities for the poor.
“We want these students to know that hard work pays and that if they hope to create a better life for their families, their big break is right there,” Chow said adding that he too had to struggle for money during his university days, and could understand the hardships.
To qualify for the scholarship, applicants must achieve 8A+ and above in SPM, be active in co-curricular activities and must not be in receipt of any other financial aid.
The College is also willing to consider talented students who excel in sports, music or performances, and students with leadership qualities (such as being a head prefect or King’s Scouts) who may not have scored 8A+ but have attained a minimum of 5As for half scholarships and relevant bursaries which will cover the balance of their tuition fees.
Announcements for scholarships will be made by Sin Chew Daily and interested applicants must apply through them.
