Georgetown: Penang launched its 1st International Education Forum (PIEF) which engaged educationists and counselors from various ASEAN countries at Northam Hotel recently.
PIEF 2017, aimed to establish Penang as an eminent destination for education, is easily accessible to those in the ASEAN region through increased connectivity. Penang Centre of Education Tourism (PCET) President Dr. Mary Ann Harris said, “PCET hopes that through PIEF 2017, the 81 delegates present can use this opportunity to exchange ideas, to compare practices and create a better future for the students”. “Education is the key for mutual understanding and greater prosperity in these turbulent times,” she added.
“We thank YAB Tuan Lim Guan Eng, Chief Minister of Penang for the funds and support for the forum and we hope to organize bigger forums in future,” she said. YAB Tuan Lim Guan Eng, Chief Minister of Penang said, “neighbouring countries can use Penang as a springboard to learn English which is the language of commerce and internet before departing for distant countries”.
“We offer a safe and secured environment to build your character as well as knowledge”, he added during the opening speech.
The forum, which is a platform for educators in the ASEAN region to participate in professional development and collaborate with Penang Higher Education providers, is a partnership of PCET and ten distinguished institutions of higher learning.
