QUBE exhibition, showcasing best artworks and portfolios of 18 students from Diploma in Multimedia Communication Design of Han Chiang College was held in Penangpac Straits Quay, Penang.
The aim of this exhibition was to display various design works produced by graduating students to highlight the elements of creativity, style, innovation and originality.
Han Chiang College Principal, Dr Beh Kok Hooi said the theme is also in-line with the event where the elements of individuality of students are merged to show a combined ‘cube’.
“Sometimes we are afraid of differences, but at Han Chiang, we believe in diversity, because creativity is about being true to ourselves and to the ideas that we have,” Dr Beh said in the opening ceremony.
“There’s nothing braver than creating something that comes from within, and we are proud of our students’ quirky abilities to convey what they think and feel in their masterpieces,” he said.
Han Chiang College Head of School of Applied Creative Arts and Design, Lim Chun Woei advised the students to keep the passion for design burning. “My only advice to the students is to keep their passion alive and don’t give up,” Lim said. “Design is one of the most important industries in the world, but is also taken for granted,” he said.
Han Chiang College also took the first step in developing a creative environment for students through School of Applied Creative Arts and Design’s App (SACAD) project. SACAD mobile application is a unique collaboration between lecturers and students to build a mobile app. The app gives the users an effortless access to reach out to students.
“We thought to keep our ambitions smaller by keeping at school level first and see how far it can go”, Lim said. Students’ profiles and portfolios are included in the app and this feature will help students to have more exposure in the industry. Lim said industries usually call the college to look for talented students.
“Now they don’t need to,” he said. “This app will help the students to engage in the industry and advance further in career,” he said.
Students can check their results, courses, time table and also apply for courses by using SACAD app.
