The Han Chiang University College of Communication (HCUC) Raya Open House hosted by its Muslim staff today (July 12) was filled with fun and laughter when all the staff gathered to celebrate the joyous occasion.
Organising Chairperson Nadia Jefri said the Open House is an annual event initiated by HCUC’s Muslim staff to preserve the culture of ‘open house’ culture that is normally practised by Muslims and for other races to experience the spirit of Raya.
“We started years back with just a small-scale of Open House.
“As we have more Muslim staff coming in year after year, we have decided to make it slightly ‘bigger’ by serving bigger portions and a variety of foods to our colleagues.
“As this event is done once a year, this has also become like a small gathering, which can strengthen the relationship among all the staff,” she said.
During the Open House, all the staff were treated to various Hari Raya dishes including ketupat, rendang, satay, nasi impit, roti jala and Raya cookies.
They were also entertained by a group of HCUC students singing a classic Raya song, Selamat Hari Raya, which was coordinated by the School of English Language and Translation Lecturer, Arif Bahari.
