HCUC celebrates historic graduation for Class of 2024: A new generation of leaders ready to shape the future

PENANG:  Han Chiang University College of Communication (HCUC) marks a historic milestone today with the largest-ever cohort of graduates. The Class of 2024, made up of 314 students will soon embark on their professional journeys, equipped with the skills and knowledge honed during their time at HCUC. The convocation ceremony, held in the Lim Lean Teng Hall, symbolised both the end of a fulfilling academic chapter and the beginning of a new adventure in their respective fields.

Chairman of the Penang Han Chiang Associated Chinese Schools Association, Dato’ Seri Ooi Soo Hing, emphasised HCUC's unique heritage in his address, stating, “While we are celebrated for our excellence in media studies, our deep-rooted commitment to Chinese education remains an integral part of our identity. It is both our responsibility and a noble mission to preserve and promote Chinese culture.”

“The students' hard work, dedication and academic achievements have significantly enhanced HCUC’s reputation as a leading institution of higher learning, particularly in the field of media education,” he added.

He also highlighted the importance of academic innovation, celebrating the graduation of HCUC’s first cohort from the Master of Arts in Chinese Studies programme, launched in 2022. "Their success is a testament to our dedication to advancing Chinese education and driving academic innovation," he said.

In addition to congratulating the graduates, the Honorary Chancellor, Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Tan Kok Ping JP stated that HCUC being a private higher education institution had faced many challenges since its founding, but its original goal still remains the same: To provide high-quality education opportunities for the community.

“Since its elevation to university college status, the institution has continuously expanded its range of academic programmes. The launch of a PhD in Chinese Studies last year has established HCUC as the only higher education institution in Malaysia with a comprehensive Chinese education system from primary and secondary school to undergraduate, master’s degree to doctoral degrees,” he said.

He stressed that this milestone not only marked HCUC’s century old journey of preserving Chinese education but also represents a groundbreaking achievement in the history of Chinese education development in Malaysia.

I hope that you will face future learning and work challenges with composure, accept the adversities of life and embrace temporary setbacks with grace. In this journey, which is not always smooth and filled with uncertainties, please believe that you possess the ability to overcome difficulties.

“Remain calm and determined, be eager to learn and think critically, and act diligently. More importantly, fill your life with passion and your future with hope, so that you can seize opportunities in this uncertain world,” he said.

He also reminded the graduates to remain curious, think critically and act with diligence.

"Most importantly, fill your lives with passion and your future with hope, so that you can seize opportunities in an ever-evolving world,” he added.
